The True Cost of Our Free Market

I didn’t come from a military family. But even as a little kid, I was always obsessed with fighter jets and aircraft carriers. It was the same with space stuff. I was just a nerd for military engineering.

Fast forward to high school… I had bad grades, but my teachers didn’t give a crap so I didn’t give a crap. Anyway, I went to the high school guidance counselor who asked what I was going to do. I told her I was joining the Marines.

“No, no, no… You’re too smart.”

I was always the technology guy, the computer guy.

She said I was “too smart for that” which pisses me off. What did she know?

At the time I thought “well, I guess I’ll go to college even if I’m not really interested in it. I guess that’s what I’m supposed to do.”

So, I went to college for a couple of years and wasted my time. I dropped most of my classes and then signed up for them again the next semester. What a waste. I spent most of my time drinking and chasing girls.

Then, my buddy started a computer business. So, I dropped out. I was employee number one and we became partners. That’s how my computer business started.

Now, I live a life of no regrets. But not serving my country? I could have enlisted for four years and would have been out at about the same time and started the business.

The Big Picture

Flat out… America is the greatest country in the history of the world. History began on July 4th, 1776. Everything before that was a mistake.

One of the biggest things that makes us great is the men and women of the US military.

Today is about those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for you and for me. This vehicle we have, this engine of wealth and prosperity…

It couldn’t have happened without the sacrifices they gave for free markets and for freedom.

Today is about our fallen heroes. Take a moment today (traditionally at 3:00 p.m., or 15:00 to those who gave their lives) and honor them.

Our Most Recent Fallen Heroes

These brave soldiers were killed in action during an unmanned aircraft system attack on March 1, 2026, in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait:

  • Captain Cody A. Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida
  • Sergeant 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota
  • Sergeant 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska
  • Sergeant Declan J. Coady, 20, of West Des Moines, Iowa
  • Major Jeffrey O’Brien, 45, of Iowa
  • Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, of Sacramento, California

These are the names of the six Airmen who died on March 12, 2026, in the crash of a KC-135 in western Iraq.

  • Maj. John A. Klinner, 33, of Auburn, Ala.
  • Capt. Ariana G. Savino, 31, of Covington, Wash.
  • Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, Ky.
  • Capt. Seth R. Koval, 38, of Mooresville, Ind.
  • Capt. Curtis J. Angst, 30, of Wilmington, Ohio
  • Tech. Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons, 28, of Columbus, Ohio.

Finally, Maj. Sorffly Davius, 46, of Cambria Heights, Queens, N.Y., died on March 6, 2026, in Camp Buehring, Kuwait, as a result of a non-combat related incident.

All of these men and women gave their lives so we can remain free. Read their names again. They are more than names and ages and where they lived.

Today, as you enjoy your freedom, keep them and their families in mind with gratitude.

My Take

Not serving my country sticks in my craw. It bugs me. That is one of the reasons why I’m such a proponent of anyone that served. Thank them for their service. Mean it. And may God bless America.

Watchlist

Today I want to share two great companies that have chosen to come back home to America. First up is one of my recent watchlist stocks.

In August 2025, the US government invested $8.9 billion to acquire roughly 10% of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC). This is a great story of bringing jobs back to America.

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) started its reshoring initiative back in 2012. Thank goodness, because the company is essential in the AI data center market. It supplies natural gas generators for behind-the-meter power.

Now, I know these aren’t penny stocks. But they are great American companies that couldn’t exist without the sacrifices made by our military.
