Too many new traders treat their win rate like a video game score.
The problem is, your win rate doesn’t pay the bills. It won’t keep your account in the green or help you get past the learning curve. There’s only one number that matters for that.
Set one trade in the morning…And target a $500 payout over the next 24 hours?

The Big Picture
It feels incredible to be right, and a high win rate is great for the ego. But you could have a 90% win rate with a falling equity curve.
At the end of the day, the obsession with win rate is all about the ego.
Trading As the Ego Sees It
Here’s how the ego determines whether a trade is good or bad:
Ego: You win, you did good. You lose, you did bad.
That’s not how trading works.
If you expect perfection, you’ll only be disappointed. It doesn’t exist, okay?
You could trade one of our core setups, like the VWAP hold or the morning fader, and you may lose. But if you stick to the plan and get stopped out, it’s not a bad trade.
Too many people determine good or bad trades based on whether they win or lose.
So, let’s put your win rate versus your PnL into perspective…
You Can’t Buy Anything With Win Rate
If you want to buy a new iPhone, what do you think will happen if you bring a printout with your win rate to the Apple store?

The Apple Specialist is going to say, “Nope. That won’t get you this awesome new iPhone.”
Now, if you had a good week and make $1,500 with a small account…
You can go into the Apple Store on the weekend and drop $1,299 on an iPhone 18 Pro Max. Nobody will ask you what your win rate is, okay?
All That Matters Is PnL
SO many new traders zoom in too much. They’re obsessed with this idea that winning is good and losing is bad. In doing so, they lose the forest for the trees.
Remember, trading is a game of mistakes.
I believe that if you trade repeatable setups and follow a trade plan with smart risk management, you’ll do well. Does every trade work? No. But at the end of the day, your PnL account is what matters.
My Take
Ego tends to get in the way, especially for new traders.
I don’t care about win rate because it does nothing for you. You can’t pay down bills with your win rate. You can’t buy anything based on your win rate, okay?
I care about PnL.
So, focus on tracking good setups, trading the patterns, and following your trade plan. Most importantly, understand that even the most successful traders have losing trades. It’s normal.
Watchlist
WEBUY GLOBAL LTD (NASDAQ: WBUY) was a momentum mover yesterday (Oct. 13).
WBUY popped up on Oracle with a stop at 91 cents. That’s where it ended up building a nice base.
I like breaks above $1 with risk at yesterday’s stop. The target is major resistance at $1.15. It’s not the best risk-to-reward setup we’ve seen recently, but you take what the market gives.
On My Radar
- Today’s numbers: September Consumer Price Index (CPI)
- Tomorrow’s numbers: September Producer Price Index (PPI)
- Higgins might be looking to make a buck on my DMs
- Meanwhile, Dario keeps pushing his pre-IPO AI doom-and-gloom nonsense
- This pattern tells you what stock to buy, when to sell, and your stop-loss (even if you’ve never traded before)
