My friend, we live in the best country in the history of the world. And we live in the most incredible time in history.
Now, I’m not saying America is perfect. But compared to all other forms of government, ours is best and we truly live in the land of opportunity.

The Big Picture
As far as I’m concerned, history began on July 4, 1776. When it comes to your right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…
Everything before the Declaration of Independence was a mistake. Prehistory, leading up to the United States of America.
If you live in America, you have opportunities that some people in the world still only dream about today.
Now, I know people have their differences when it comes to politics. I don’t like to talk about politics here, so I won’t
I also know that the United States of America is not perfect and we have plenty of things we should focus on, like infrastructure and the education system.
But even with issues, there is no place on Earth I’d rather live than here.
Independence Day Is the Second Best Holiday
Behind Christmas, that is.
Enjoy the weekend. Spend time with family. Watch the fireworks displays and have a barbecue.
But also take a moment to consider, with awe, the brilliance and tenacity of the Founding Fathers. It wasn’t easy for them, but they gave us the greatest gift with the greatest political experiment in history.
It was a few years before it got worked out. Early on, after the Declaration of Independence, it was years before we had the Constitution and knew exactly what form our government would take.
Again, I know we had growing pains. In the big scheme of things, we’re still a young country and we might have more growing pains in the future.
That doesn’t take away from the fact that this is the greatest country on Earth
We all owe a debt of gratitude to the 55 men who drafted the Constitution. Is it perfect? If you know your history, you know we’ve made amendments. And I’ll remind you that we have a mechanism for adding more, if necessary.
We also owe a debt of gratitude to Thomas Jefferson and the Continental Congress who together made our great nation free on July 4, 1776.
Without Freedom
On May 17, 1792, 24 brokers signed the Buttonwood Agreement on Wall Street. That agreement eventually turned into the New York Stock Exchange.
My friend, without freedom we might not have the best, most important, most followed stock exchanges in the world.
Without freedom you might not be able to read this on the internet. You might not be able to open a brokerage account and trade in a large-cap company, let alone a penny stock.
Without freedom, you might be told what to do, when to do it, and how it should be done.
With Freedom…
You have opportunities. Every single day.
The market is closed today. Take a moment to relish the fact that you breathe free air in a free country with every opportunity to better yourself every day.
Happy 250th Birthday United States of America!
My Take
Take some quality time and remind yourself how much you have to be grateful for.
I know this is not Thanksgiving (another great American holiday). But it all starts with freedom, with independence, with a willingness to stand for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you Sunday night.
Watchlist
Today’s stock is more of a swing trade idea.
John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: WLY) has slowly grinding toward a 52-week high since early March.
If you’ve ever taken a college course or read a science journal, you’ve probably picked up a book published by Wiley. A solid American company since 1807. Look for breaks above $55 per share.
