Remember, folks, the stock market is closed today, May 25, 2020, for Memorial Day.
Those of you who know me know how much Memorial Day means to me. I always say how much I appreciate the people who serve and have served our country in the military. And I have a special admiration for all of our veterans.
For a lot of us, being on lockdown during the pandemic may have reminded us of how important freedom is. The thing is, freedom isn’t free. A lot of people made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I could enjoy our freedom today.
Just like many things that are valuable — you have to fight for it. The fact that you and I can feel free to voice our opinions and disagreements in the U.S. is something we should be grateful for every day … And it’s something that we can easily take for granted.

Memorial Day 2020: Celebrating in Lockdown
This year, Memorial Day will be a little different with much of the country still in lockdown. There won’t be as many picnics — or even barbecues — to kick off summer. But it’s still an important day to remember.
And frankly, picnics and pool parties aren’t what Memorial Day is about.
So, before you head into the weekend, I want to challenge you to take a moment and do three things…
First, take some time to practice gratitude and reflect on the sacrifices made on our behalf. The current political environment can be polarizing, but let’s put all that noise aside. This weekend isn’t the time for that.
The truth is somewhere at some time, soldiers put their lives in danger to protect our idea of freedom … And when that happened, someone lost a spouse, a parent, a child, a sibling, or a friend.
Next, with that newfound gratitude, take a moment and think about what that freedom means for your life. What can you do in this country that you wouldn’t be able to do in another?
When you do this, it’s important to focus on the positive. Don’t waste your mental energy thinking about what you don’t have. Remember, gratitude isn’t about focusing on what’s missing. It’s about truly appreciating the good things that are right in front of you.
So, please, this Memorial Day, try to be in the moment and enjoy it.
Finally, think about this…
What Does Freedom Mean for Your Trading?
So many people tell me about their reasons for wanting to become a successful trader. That may be the ability to quit a job they hate, the ability to work from anywhere, or just earning extra money.
But it all comes down to freedom.
The sad thing is that so many complain when they realize the sacrifices they have to make to reach that freedom…
“It takes too long.”
… or…
“It takes too much studying.”
… or…
“I already have too many responsibilities.”
Well, you’ll never get to the freedom you want through trading without gratitude. It’s true, it can take a long time … Yes, you have to study a lot … And you’ll probably have to give up other things that you want to do.
But becoming great is a process. And you probably won’t stick with the process if you don’t regularly practice gratitude.
