Independence Day will probably look a lot different this year.
Reminder: The stock market is closed Friday, July 3, 2020, in observance of Independence Day.
And despite how exceptional this year is in so many ways, I still believe that the United States of America is the best country in the world.
There’ll probably be fewer barbecues in the parks this year…
And we probably won’t see as many large-scale fireworks celebrations this Independence Day. A lot of families are staying in lockdown due to the pandemic. Even Disney World’s still closed.
Yet, even without the noise and festivities — this Fourth of July has more meaning for me.
Now more than ever we need to hold on to the ideas of freedom and liberty that this country is founded on — and unite with gratitude.

What We Need to Remember on Independence Day
The freedoms we currently enjoy came at a high price…
There were hard-fought battles and a lot of blood spilled … All to break free from an authoritarian system that wouldn’t let this country’s founders go.
It was a system that didn’t provide them any representation. It held the American colonists under its tyrannical thumb.
How’d those early Americans break free?
A band of regular folks, including farmers and shopkeepers, fought against the most well-trained and well-armed military in the world. They did it for a chance to live life on their own terms.
And they won. It was an incredible achievement. And because of those battles, a nation was born…
… one that turned away from a monarchy…
… and put the power of government in the hands of the people.
That included freedoms such as a right to choose your own religion … the right to say what you believe … and to hold peaceful public gatherings.
For me, the light of the idea behind Independence Day shines brighter than any darkness in the country right now.
I’m not saying the country’s perfect.
But these imperfect people laid the groundwork for us to continually grow and improve — and to become the most influential country in the world.
A lot of other countries don’t provide the freedoms we experience.
There are reasons so many people from countries all over the world do everything they can to move to the U.S. We’re an incredible melting pot.
I’m grateful for that.
This Independence Day, Step Into Your Freedom
Our country’s founders decided to fight against a powerful, violent, and tyrannical king to live a life of freedom.
I could only imagine the fear and anxiety they must’ve felt as they put themselves and their families in danger.
They were willing to die to have a choice — to have a say in how they lived their lives.
What’s great is that their choice gave us the freedom to do the same.
Listen, we’re not facing the same kinds of danger. But for you to step into your freedom, you gotta face your own fears and anxiety.
No one’s gonna do it for you.
For a lot of you, learning to trade is a way to step into your freedom. You’ve decided to learn a new skill that makes it possible for you to pave your own way.
That can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Maybe building a new lifestyle for yourself or getting out of a 9-to-5 job that you hate.
Whatever the reason … You decided that your current situation isn’t good enough for you — that the pain of building a new skill is less than the pain of doing nothing.
Be Grateful for Your Freedom This Independence Day
If you’re gonna make it in this game, you gotta have gratitude.
The road’s gonna be super hard. But I believe in working for what you truly value. And if you can’t find the mental capacity to push through, you’ll never make it to the finish line.
You don’t have to be the best in the world … I think you just need to be willing to continually show up and do the work. You gotta find what motivates you to keep going.
Gratitude can help give you the mental capacity to push through. Because deep down, it means you believe success is possible.
Listen, if you’re focused on negativity most of the time you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
Anyway … I hope that this post gets you off your butt. Remember perspective is a superpower — do what you can to protect it.
